Thanks and News
Hi everyone,
…ok, I’m still learning to ride the Substack beast.
First of all, many thanks for your kind comments and thanks for sharing widely the piece on Real Abstraction/Class Reductionism. I appreciate it.
I’m still thinking of the strange encounter I had with Damage mag who initially planned to publish it. They made one excellent edit (to which I gave my consent), and the piece was good to go. Over the weekend, however, another one appeared. In this new edit, the editor simply deleted 90% of the text. As thought they were writing their own editorial, peppered with a few remarks from my article. With the theoretical parts gone, the article no longer made any sense (there were also some ad hominem remarks to Haider which were quite unbecoming). It was no longer about the stakes of Real Abstraction in the Class Redux-debate. I wouldn’t have known how to defend such a piece if it was published under my own name. I still think the editors at Damage meant to make it stronger (in good faith), but it just got a lot poorer in my view. Quite penniless, actually.
In the meantime, I’ve been planning to write some more on class and intersectionality theory, which, you’ve guessed it, contrary to its own claims isn’t about class at all.
Check out the new “About” section, too. In which I explain the lovely title of this Substack for those who are not familiar with volume 3 of Capital.
Best for now, with love and respect,
Elena
